Mr Shanmuganathan perfomed a transforminal spinal nerve block at L5/S1 following my MRI scan results to give me some pain relief. He discussed my MRI scan in detail and discussed my options long-term. I decided to proceed with a discectomy and was placed on his list for surgery. I had a second nerve block injection largerly due to my pain levels and constraints within the NHS which were out of Mr Shanmuganathans control my scheduled date of surgery was cancelled. Mr Shanmuganathan is very dedicated to his profession and in my wait for another date made contact personally to see how I was mananging with my pain. I got another date and had a endoscopic L5/S1 discetomy in Jan 20 with an excellent outcome. This procedure was explained in detail to me and I cannot thank MR Shanmuganathan enough for his professional caring attitude and great care. The endoscopic discectomy is so minimally invasive with a tiny wound and a reduction in the length of hospital stay. The way forward in treating patients like myself. It provided me with instant relief from the radiating nerve pain in leg and foot which I am grateful. Many Thanks Mano

I had been suffering with excruciating nerve pain running from my gluteal area right down both legs. It completely changed my way of life from being a regular gym user and not being able to walk at any pace without being in discomfort. At work I was sore whilst seated and was at my wits end. I had an MRI at kingsbridge hospital which identified a growth attached to my nerve roots called a Schwannoma. Mano spoke with me and identified the growth and scheduled me in for a consultation with surgery to follow. From the outset Mano’s calm and reassuring manner, his knowledge and bedside manner put me at ease and I knew I was in the best of hands. On the day of the operation Mano came to see me and once again reassured that everything was in hand. Following the procedure he visited me in whilst in recovery and also once again when I returned to the hospital ward. During my stay in hospital Mano was on time off and still kept in I touch with me by the Healee messaging app making sure my recovery was going ok. Today the results of my biopsy came through and he messaged me to make me aware the growth was benign. As each day passes I am feeling better and am able to do a little bit more. The discomfort from surgery is easing and I just have to keep an eye on the wound and make sure to do my physio exercises. I can’t thank Mano enough for his superb care.

In November 2018 Mano undertook a very rear and difficult operation on me to remove a prolapsed disc (T7 - T8) that was crushing my spinal cord and causing Brown Sequard Syndrome causing paralysis to my right side. He was very professional and welcoming from the first day I met him. He was open and straight with me at all times even when the news was difficult to hear, this included letting me know what the chances of success were. After 11.5 hrs in surgery and 15 nights in the Belfast Royal Victoria Hospital the surgery was a success. Mano is an amazing surgeon, he visit the ward every day and was always willing to discuss my concerns. I can not recommend Mano enough, because of his skills, dedication and care I can now carry on with my life with full movement and control. If he had decided that the operation was to difficult I would now be in a wheel chair. Thanks you for giving me my life back.

Mr Shanmuganathan performed life saving neurological surgery on my wife in April 2019, together with Dr Stavros Constantine, at the Royal Victoria, Belfast. Surgery was almost totally successful, leaving only a hearing impairment. This is quite astounding, given the severity of the tumour and complexity of the surgery. Undoubtedly life saving. Clearly, a top man, to whom we owe a huge debt of gratitude.
